Variety Record Lounge, located on Columbia's historic public square, is hosting a recycled iPod Donation Drive benefiting the residents at Signature HealthCare of Columbia. I-Pods, chargers and I-Tunes Gift Cards are currently needed by Signature for their Music & Memory program.
"Donate your iPod! Get into vinyl!" said Tim Scribner, co-owner of Variety Record Lounge.
Anyone donating a gently used iPod to the drop box will receive a 10 percent discount toward their next vinyl purchase.
These iPods are used to provide a specific and personalized music library created for each individual Signature HealthCare resident, all within music royalty guidelines. Donated iPods are erased and downloaded with 100-200 songs, radio shows, books, sermons and even personal messages from family members.
"Most of us no longer use iPods and have replaced them with a more up-to-date technology. These iPods can be put to great use instead of ending up in a recycling facility or worse. We can use any type of iPod from the small Shuffle to the most advanced with wireless capability. MP3 players are not used, as their function for media other than music is limited," said Deborah Ferris, a volunteer at Signature HealthCare. "If you are interested in a community service project, Signature can provide an iPod drop box and flyers for your church, office, school, club meeting, etc.
The joy that comes from giving someone their favorite music and links to their past is a lifeline to their best memories. Variety Record Lounge is located at 24 Public Square in Columbia.
Signature HealthCARE is located at 1410 Trotwood Ave, (931) 388-6443. Signature's vision is to radically change the landscape of long-term care forever.
