Sony’s got two new ‘Tap’ touchscreen PCs for its Vaio line.
Sony has a lot to talk about this year at IFA. Joining the unique Flip convertible in Sony’s fall Vaio line up is the Vaio Tap 11 tablet PC (pictured below) and the Vaio Tap 21. Sony says the Tap 11 is the world’s thinnest Windows 8 tablet PC, measuring in at just under 10 mm thick. The Tap 11 packs Intels’ Haswell as well as solid state storage, an SD card reader, USB 3.0, Micro-HDMI, WiDi, NFC, and an 8-megapixel camera. It also supports Sony’s Active Pen for taking notes and memos. Despite its distinction as a tablet PC, Sony is also, not surprisingly, pushing an aluminum magnetic full pitch keyboard/cover with a touch pad. The Tap 11 is available in both black and white.
Though the Tap 21 shares branding with the Tap 11, it’s actually an all-in-one PC and a follow on from last year’s Tap 20 AIO. It too runs on Intel’s 4th generation Core i-series of CPUs and boasts a 21.5-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 and 10-point multitouch. Like the rest of the computers in this lineup, the Tap 21 packs Intel’s 4th generation Haswell, just like the rest of Sony’s new machines. It’s available with either an SSD or hybrid storage solution, and comes with an internal battery (so it is technically a portable solution), but Sony hasn’t detailed much else in the way of specs.
Sony is keeping quiet on U.S. pricing and availability, but we’ll keep you posted.
