Few devices have had so many conflicting reports and rumors as Apple's iPod Touch 6G, which is currently rumored to be coming in March, if the most recent reports are to be trusted. However, given how much information has been coming out about the device, with each new rumor contradicting the last one, it's hard to tell for sure what Apple could possibly have planned. Some reports are actually claiming that the iPod line is about to be scrapped entirely, as Apple are focusing more on the iPhone and iPad, but this has not been confirmed until now.
It's been reported that the new iPod could benefit from recent developments in the iPhone line, introducing certain features from the iPhone 6. In addition, Apple could possible offer the device in two different variants, with a 4.7 and 5.5 inch screen, which would certainly be a bit unusual for an iPod device, but it could make sense with regards to the company's plans.
The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, is the main target for speculation for the device's potential unveiling right now, and many eyes are firmly focused on the event in anticipation of major news from Apple. Additional rumors claim that Apple are also planning to release the iWatch at the same event, as the watch has apparently been designed with support for the new iPod as well. This would make sense if the iPod Touch 6G follows a similar design style like the iPhone 6, and the device could easily benefit from many of the features of Apple's first wearable – plus it would work great for boosting the popularity of both devices, as the iWatch could turn out to be a great marketing tool for promoting Apple's handhelds.
Does the device still have the potential to be viable though? That could very well be – even though many people are now moving towards using their phones as music players, and the trend is growing more and more popular, dedicated MP3 players still have a well-established position on the market, and it's extremely likely that a new iPod could be very successful, given the right push from Apple's marketing department.
And Apple are certainly not a company that's shy on the marketing – they know how to bring people to their products when they need to. And if they develop a new iPod Touch with all the right features for a portable MP3 player in 2015, they could earn themselves not only a little extra profit, but also a great additional platform for advertising the iWatch and all of its special features that require a connection to a handheld device like the iPhone, or possibly iPod Touch.
