Ten essential holiday songs for your iPod - The Express Times - LehighValleyLive.com

It is hard to believe, but, the end of the year is almost upon us.

As we slog closer to Christmas, I decided to revisit and revamp my list of iPod holiday music essentials. After all, music is an essential part of the holiday season.

Here is the updated list of 10 holiday songs that will be on repeat on my iPod between now and Dec. 25:

Bing Crosby, “Mele Kalikimaka”: Hawaii in Christmas? I’ll take it, Bing.

U2, “Baby, Please Come Home”: Released in 1987, U2′s Christmas tune still rocks and crackles with energy like chestnuts roasting over an open fire.

Brenda Lee, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”: This song still puts a smile on my face every single time I hear it. (Thanks, “Home Alone.”)

Run DMC, “Christmas in Hollis”: Best. Christmas. Song. Ever.

Adam Sandler, “Hanukkah Song”: You don’t have to be Jewish to appreciate Sandler’s goofy rundown of celebs who are.

Twisted Sister, “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”: Mascara and mistletoe meet in Twisted Sisters’ rendition of the Christmas standard, sung and played to the tune of the band’s hair metal anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” Rock on.

Dropkick Murphys, “The Season’s Upon Us”: Singer-bassist laments with heavy sarcasm on getting together with his family on Christmas. It’s funny, bittersweet and hits close to home.

She & Him, “Sleigh Ride”: Zooey Deschanel’s soothing voice blends perfectly with guitarist M. Ward’s lilting melodies.

Chuck Berry, “Run Rudolph Run”: Pure, unadulterated rock ‘n’ roll at its best.

Tom Petty, “Christmas All Over Again”: Not only a great tune, but it’s by far the standout track from the “A Very Special Christmas 2″ benefit compilation.
