Apple said it “still has a lot to cover,” and as it turns out, that was not a pun about iPad cases. The company’s fall 2013 event was equal parts iPad and OS X: a super-thin iPad Air, an iPad mini with Retina display, a release date for the redesigned Mac Pro, and lots of free software. It’s large set of iterative updates — nothing surprising, nothing we didn’t see coming. But we’ve been waiting for Apple to take a big step for a few events now — and hopefully next time we’ll see something truly daring. Nilay Patel reports.
