Ion-Liviu Radita, 36, made 11 break-ins across Kent in a three-week ordeal throughout May until he was eventually caught by an object he had pinched.
Radita, originally from Romania, had taken an iPad from a victim’s home in Sevenoaks, Kent not knowing the owner had a “Find my iPhone” app installed.
Officers were able to track down the iPad through its GPS system taking them to Radita’s home in Ilford, Essex where they were able to arrest and charge the suspect.
Radita’s home was then searched by police where the iPad, laptops, mobile phones, cash and more than 100 items of jewellery were found.
He had also urinated on the bed of two victims during the raids across May.
With the help of the ‘Find My iPhone’ app we were able to tie his location down to a small number of addresses
Detectives found a red Nissan Primera outside his house that was proved to have been driven to and from Kent around the same time of the 11 burglaries.
Radita was sentenced to seven years in jail after being found guilty of conspiracy to commit burglary between May 3 and May 25 at Maidstone Crown Court in Kent.
Detective Constable Bill Looker of Kent Police said: “With the help of the ‘Find My iPhone’ app we were able to tie his location down to a small number of addresses and from there it was a case of using other tools available to us such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to keep tabs and track the car we knew was being used to commit these burglaries.
”The cameras proved the car was in the area of those burglaries at that time and was seen to go back to Essex after they were committed.”
