MORE: Ball State-Northern Illinois is one to savor

Synopsis: Mid-American Conference followers have had this date circled for a long time. The host Huskies are the defending league champs and have the national ranking and the Heisman Trophy candidate, but the Cardinals have a chance to lock up the MAC West division title with a victory tonight. The Huskies’ signature star is QB Jordan Lynch, who leads the MAC in rushing with 1,150 yards while also throwing 19 TD passes. He’s scored 12 more TDs on the ground and has a scoring reception to boot. When he doesn’t keep the ball, he most often puts it in the hands of WRs Tommylee Lewis and Da’Ron Brown or TB Cameron Stingily. But Lynch is sure to be the main focus of Ball State LB Ben Ingle. The Cardinals’ offense is more than capable of keeping pace with senior QB Keith Wenning at the controls. His primary threat is WR Willie Snead, but S Jimmy Ward and the NIU secondary must not lose track of WR Jamill Smith.

WEEK 12: College football TV schedule

Miami (Ohio) (0-9) at Kent State (2-8)

Time/TV: 8 p.m. ET/ESPNU. Surface: Artificial.

Line: Kent 171/2. Sagarin difference: Kent by 21.33.

Synopsis: This is a game that will be of interest only to the two teams’ most devoted of fans, friends and family members. It wasn’t expected to be this way for the Golden Flashes, who won 11 games a season ago and played for the MAC title. But the loss of coach Darrell Hazell to Purdue and a nagging ankle injury that has slowed star TB/KR Dri Archer all season led to a steep drop-off. KSU QB Colin Reardon is a redshirt freshman and has showed his inexperience from time to time, and RB Trayion Durham has struggled to find real estate without consistent aerial support. But matters have gone even worse for the winless RedHawks, currently under the direction of interim coach Mike Bath. With QB Austin Boucher done for the season with a knee injury, Miami might turn to dual-threat freshman Austin Gearing.

Lines furnished by Glantz-Culver.

Jeff Sagarin’s power ratings show the relative strength of teams; 3.91 points were added to the home team’s rating to calculate the difference.
