Apple iPod creator's Nest Labs reveal Nest Protect, the new-gen smoke alarm system

Nest Labs, a firm which has been co-founded by one of the creators of the legendary Apple iPod, Tony Fadell along with Matt Rodgers, has unveiled a carbon monoxide alarm system which is being called the Nest Protect. The alarm system will retail for $ 129 which is equivalent to £80.18.
The device has very stylish looks and a female voice warns users when smoke levels get dangerously high and even better, the alarm can be silenced with just a wave of a hand.

Tony Fadell has worked on the first generation of the iPod and is known as one of the fathers of the iPod. He co-founded this Silicon Valley startup with Matt Rodgers a few years ago. Nest decided to work on this product as normally the smoke alarms do not work and are completely frustrating, useless and ugly products. Mr. Rodgers said, "It's really about finding the unloved and these things are incredibly important that you cannot live without."

Nest Protect comes in color of black and white and has a battery backup of up to seven years. It is initially being launched in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom. The alarm supports English, French and Spanish languages and has nine sensors to help track hand gestures.

It can also work as a night light on a low power consuming mode and lights up when someone walks underneath. The device would be on sale with many retailers including Amazon, beginning next month.

Nest's first product was a round metal thermostat with a glass screen that displayed temperature and changed its background color according to the wall it was on. It monitored and stored a lot of usage data to automatically decide the required temperatures.
