"Netflix" just released its free updated app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. This newest version (5.0) adds support for HD (high-definition) content and AirPlay streaming, along with playback and stability enhancements, according to an Oct 3 report in "Apple Insider".
This new “Netflix" update for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch comes on the heels of the company’s announcement last week that the dedicated "Netflix" app for Apple TV now supports "Super HD". "Super HD" is extremely high quality HD.
"Super HD" means that movies and TV shows look even sharper. Viewers may not be able to enjoy this high quality content all the time, however. "Netflix" uses a technology that adjusts image quality in accordance with available bandwidth—so, as bandwidth diminishes, quality does too. At peak periods "Netflix" customers account for almost 30 percent of Internet traffic.
Besides playback optimizations, stability improvements and "Super HD", the other big improvement in the new "Netflix" app for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, is support for AirPlay. With Airplay you can wirelessly stream content from your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch to your HDTV via Apple TV. This way you and your entire family can watch the movies and TV episodes (that you found on your iPad, iPhone or iPad Touch) on your big screen television. Awesome!
This "Netflix" update is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and, although it is optimized for iOS 7, will work on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that is running iOS 6+.
